Within Ip Man’s legacy, one of the most reputable and most recognized Wing Chun masters at the level of the famous Wong Shun Leung was Moy Yat.
This legendary kung fu master was much more than an advanced disciple of Ip Man; He was a visionary who managed to take this traditional martial art to global levels, adapting it to modern times without losing its essence.
Moy Yat was born in 1938 in Guangdong, China, and had the honor of training directly under Ip Man, one of the most influential masters in the history of kung fu. Wing Chun, a direct and efficient combat style, became his passion from an early age.
For years, he absorbed the teachings of Ip Man in Hong Kong, perfecting both the technique and philosophy behind this southern Chinese martial art.
However, Moy Yat was not destined to stay in his homeland. With the intention of spreading Wing Chun beyond Asia, he emigrated to New York in the 70s, taking with him the profound teachings of his teacher Ip Man.
In the Big Apple, he established a Wing Chun school that soon attracted a diverse group of students, interested in learning not only to defend themselves, but to understand kung fu as a life discipline.
